Mum moved into Darwin House during January 2016. She had previously been invited to spend two weeks at Darwin as a ‘practise run’ to see if it suited her primarily because she was moving from her own apartment. She had a great two weeks and knew straight away that Abbeyfield Darwin was for her. She soon settled in to her new surroundings and enjoyed the company of the other people living there . She has an excellent room in Darwin with en-suite facilities which is both well decorated and well maintained. What initially struck Mum as being a major plus at Darwin was the wonderful hospitality provided by the housekeepers in terms of their friendliness and helpfulness; and, importantly, the wonderful meals they provide. As time moved on Mum has been graced with filling her days by playing scrabble with ladies who are Darwin volunteers and she has even taken up art lessons; not a bad new hobby for somebody who recently became 92 years old! For us as a family Darwin has provided us with a tremendous peace of mind. We know that she is well cared for in every aspect of her daily life; she is in a secure environment and mixes daily with a fantastic group of people; be they staff or other residents. Darwin has provided Mum with everything she needs and she is the happiest she has been in years.

A wonderful visit. A lovely home – beautifully decorated, and what a superb conservatory and garden in which to relax. The accommodation was excellent. A wonderful experience for which I could not fault – and did not wish to do so. Lively residents and some good conversations. The staff were first rate and most thoughtful – my requests were met immediately and efficiently, and the food was wonderful – I liked the dishes of confectionery given after each meal! and the giving of breakfast the night before making an early morning cup of tea possible. There was plenty of time for quiet reflection, which I particularly appreciated and found inspiring, and I much appreciated the visit by the Chair of the Trustees. Altogether a memorable visit.
